The other day I walked over to the Mohammed Sathak College of Engineering located just next to SIPCOT IT park in the Southern part of Chennai. My hope / wish was to have a chat with a couple of students and learn about how they learn.

When I walked in to the college, which has a really beautiful entrance area with plants, flowers and palm trees, I was greeted very kindly by a security officer as well as a receptionist. The receptionist said that the principal would be available in an hour. As it was lunch time, I went to the cafeteria to have a little rice and a cup of coffee and have a chat with cafeteria workers, a professor and a college bus driver who was there to eat before driving on. Afterwards, I took a little stroll around the campus to see the sports facilities.

Tips for having more privacy on social media

You have social media account but you want to have more privacy while using them. You have certain information you would like to share with your friends but not with the stranger. Here are some tips for you.

  1. Block unwanted people
    Did you dislike anyone in your school or work? Just block them to protect yourself and your privacy on social media.
  2. Set your post to private
    This will work for social media like Facebook or Instagram. Do this so that the strangers, your enemies and your boss will not see your daily life. If you are a going to have an interview for new job, do hide your post before you apply for a job, because the company you went for interview may try to search your profile online. If you are a student, your teacher may also search for your profile too.
  3. Hide your friends list from public
    This will work for Facebook users. Avoid reveal your friends list to stranger. It can help to prevent online criminal or your enemies to take advantage and reduce the risk of fraud.
  4. Use nick name for your social media account
    If possible, use your nick name to name your social media account. This can prevent the people you dislike from finding you online easily. Usually, many people who have nick name were only known by their family and relatives. Your friend can find you on social media if they are aware of your nick name.
  5. Use browser which won’t collect your information
    Did you know? Some browser will collect your information for marketing purposes. This is why there are ads related to your recent search are displaying on the web page. You can prevent this by getting yourself a browser which will not track your digital footprint. You can also use VPN to prevent revealing of digital footprint when surfing the web.
  6. Disable location tracking in your camera
    Your smartphone’s camera have a feature which can record down your location in the photograph when you snap photo. If you publish photo with location recorded on the social media, the social media can reveal where the photo was taken at. Some social media platform will state the location below the photo. The location tracking in the camera can be disabled in your phone’s setting. This applies to both IOS and Android smartphone.
